Mukherjee will arrive in Kathmandu on Sunday to sign the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) which will replace the old Agreement signed in 1987. [break]
“My current visit is to prepare for the visit of our Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who will be arriving in Kathmandu tomorrow (Sunday),” Mathai said upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
Mathai said India has abiding interest in the peace, stability and prosperity of Nepal and that motivates their wish to expand cooperation between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Nepal and India on Saturday evening reviewed the progress on implementation of the agreement reached during Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai´s India visit in November. Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire and the visiting Indian foreign secretary reviewed the progress at a meeting.
According to source, Ghimire and Mathai discussed bilateral, trade and economic issues.
The meeting also decided to hold a meeting of foreign secretaries of the two countries in January.
Similarly, the meeting agreed to form an Eminent Persons Group to look into the totality of India-Nepal relations.
