India requests Nepal to support UNSC bid

KATHMANDU, April 2: India has requested Nepal for its support in its candidacy to the membership of the UN Security Council.

Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar made the request to Minister for Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. Jaishankar arrived here today on a two-day official visit.


Talking in brief to reporters following the meeting, Minister Pandey said the Indian foreign secretary informed him about India's candidacy to the UNSC and India's expectation for support from Nepal. In response, I said that 'Nepal will follow its usual practice in relation to the support in the security council election', Minister Pandey said.

Minister Pandey said he also emphasized on the need to set a timetable for implementation of the projects signed between Nepal and India during the Nepal visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj. RSS
