IED disposed of in Biratnagar

BIRATNAGAR, March 29: A Nepal Army team successfully disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Traffic Chowk of Biratnagar on Tuesday morning.



It took 20 minutes for the team to dispose of the IED made up of pressure cooker. Police suspect underground armed outfit Janatantrik Madhesh Mukti Tigers of planting the device three meters outside the building that houses Ward Police Office and Traffic Police Office. [break]



Police found a few handwritten pamphlets nearby. The pamphlets mention Rajan Pratap, the Tigers chair, and a few Madhesh issues.



The IED was sighted at 6 am in the morning. Traffic at the main road of the second largest city was obstructed until the bomb was disposed.



“The traffic is now open,” Ward Police Office chief Durga Regmi said. “Security has been beefed up.”
