Most of the committee members speaking in the committee meeting today demanded that the committee should immediately issue directives to the government asking it to stop this decision reasoning that to give the responsibility of issuing visas to a private company is tantamount to treason. In the meeting, former Prime Minister and CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the government's decision to give the responsibility of the process of issuing visas to a private company was bizarre and the height of irresponsibility. He alleged that such decision has been perhaps made for pocketing big money in commission and it would not be acceptable to them.
"Today they are saying they want to give the responsibility of issuing visas to a private company. Who knows, tomorrow they might say let us lease the country out to another private company. We should stop such irresponsible moves," he reiterated.
Committee members Chudamani Jangalee and Shyam Shrestha, among others, demanded that the committee should stop the government from taking such a decision on a sensitive matter related to national security.
Committee president Prabhu Saha, concluding the meeting, said that the committee has decided to call the Home Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs to its next meeting to learn the truth on this matter in deference to a majority of the committee members' demand.
He said if indeed such a decision has been made to give the responsibility of the process for issuing visas to a private company, then that would be a grave mistake. The committee should stop this, he stressed. RSS
