Gurung wins 2km swimming

POKHARA, Oct 7: Jayant Prakash Gurung of Kathmandu won the gold medal in the 2km Open Swimming Championship held at the Phewa Lake in Pokhara on Monday.



Gurung clocked 21 minutes 15 seconds to bag Rs 10,000 along with the gold medal. Debesh Manandhar and Chitra Paudel of Nepal Army finished second and third respectively in the event organized by the Nepal Swimming Association (NSA). Manandhar got Rs 7,000 and Paudel received Rs 5,000. [break]



Shila Gurung of Kathmandu clocked 24 minutes 20 seconds to win gold in the women´s section. Eva Kafle of Little Angels´ and Yam Kumari Ghale of Nepal Army claimed silver and bronze medals respectively. Gurung bagged Rs 5,000 while Kafle and Ghale received Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.



Dhanman Gurung finished first among the local participants completing the 2km swimming in 24 minutes 57 seconds. Arjun Nepali and Amrit Adhikari took second and third positions among the locals.



Altogether, 44 swimmers, including 11 women, participated in the event.



Meanwhile, Little Angels´ School dominated the Sixth Machhapuchchhre Age Group Swimming Championship held in Hemja, Pokhara. Little Angels´ claimed 21 gold medals to become the team champion. Shreyansi Shrestha (U-10 girls), Allis Shrestha (U-10 boys), Eva Kafle (U-12 girls), Sarah Dhakal (U-14 girls), Robin Chand (U-14 boys), Deva Rana (U-17 girls), and Shishir Thapa (U-17 boys) won gold medals for Little Angels´ in 50m butterfly events of their respective age groups.



Sanket Nepal of Brihaspati clinched gold in the 50m butterfly event of U-14 girls´ age group.
