The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, which on Sunday said that the deaths were not due to diarrhea, on Monday said the disease was not malaria either.
“It can either be dengue fever or leptospirosis. Today, we have sent another team to the area with dengue kit and the report is expected soon,” Dr Pranaya Kumar Upadhyaya at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division said.
Upadhyaya said there are currently 38 patients of the unidentified disease. Two are being treated in critical condition.
The disease is characterized by very high fever, severe headache, difficulty in breathing, bleeding from mouth and nose and discharge of blood in cough.
A team each from Kathmandu and Janakpur were sent to the area on Sunday while a team from district headquarters had reached the area on Saturday.
