UCPN-M has obstructed the parliament for more than three months, consequently affecting the deliberations on the budget and its subsequent passage.
According to Minister for Information and Communications and government Spokesperson Shankar Pokharel, the cabinet took the decision in view of Tuesday´s meeting of the leaders of the three major political parties at the residence of UML leader KP Oli. The leaders had agreed to work together to pass the budget from the parliament.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, who attended the meeting with the Maoist and Nepal Congress leaders, briefed his cabinet colleagues on the meeting at Oli´s residence. He told the cabinet that the opposition was positive to let the parliament run pass the budget.
The meeting also expressed hopes that the ongoing Maoist protests will be peaceful. Pokharel said, “Security agencies have been kept on high alert in view of the protests.”
In yet another decision, the cabinet formed a three-member judicial commission headed by former Judge Krishna Prasad Basyal to investigate the rape of a policewoman in Achham last month.
Pokharel said the cabinet also decided to liquidate the Hetauda Kapada Udyog, concluding that the industry could not be revived as it has been remained closed for a long time.
Besides, the cabinet also decided to start works on a guidelines on fixing academic qualifications of government employees, said Pokharel.
