Following a secretary-level decision of the Ministry of Finance, the government has made a written request via the China embassy in Kathmandu.

Paudel also claimed that the ministry has prepared to allocate the budget for the bridge. The proposed 510-meter long bridge is to be built over the Kalingandaki River which has the deep gorge of 200 meters.

"Nepal doesn´t have the technology for this kind of project. Therefore, we have sought Chinese assistance," added Paudel.

Since China has already constructed the longest motorable bridge -- 1200 metres-- of the type, the government decided to approach China for assistance, he added.

Some one and a half dozen VDCs of Southern Baglung and Kushma will be connected within minutes by the motorable road once the bridge is in place. So far, the villagers are compelled to travel more than one hour to reach a village across the Kaligandaki.

The District Development Committees of Baglung and Parbat had recently carried out a detailed survey of the bridge with a support of Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR).

According to the survey, the project will cost Rs 1.29 billion.
