“The government has granted permission to the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) to send trainee workers,” Bhatta said talking to mediapersons on Saturday at the Reporters’ Club.
Years after the agreement with Japan , FNCCI had last year applied at the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management (MoLTM) seeking permission to send six industrial workers to Japan in the first lot.
The FNCCI had signed agreement with the JITCO to send Nepali industrial workers to Japanese factories in December 2003.
However, the FNCCI remained idle on the issue over the years and failed to send any workers to Japan.
But now the government has granted permission to the FNCCI to send the workers on the condition that the umbrella business body takes permission from the Department of Foreign Employment before sending the workers.
The recent cabinet meeting had decided to waive the mandatory registration fee and deposit for the FNCCI as sending agent.
“This time we will fix a time limit for the FNCCI to send the workers to Japan,” said Bhatta. The government has been facing criticism from various quarters for not speeding up the process of sending workers to Japan, the labor destination regarded as most lucrative.
Bhatta informed that the MOLTM is all set to call applications from recruitment agents and other institutions for appointing a select few for sending workers to the largest Asian economy.
After an agreement with Japan International Training and Co-operation Organization (JITCO) few months back, the government had solicited applications from Nepali recruitment agents that seek authorization for sending workers to Japan.
However, the process was disrupted after boycott by recruitment agents who demanded that the government provide equal opportunity to all agents. The government´s agreement with JITCO requires the government to designate the recruitment agents for Japan.
Speaking on the occasion, a number of Japanese entrepreneurs currently on Nepal visit, said they are interested in taking in experienced Nepali women workers for vegetables and poultry industry.
