A cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar decided to promote joint secretaries Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Naindara Prasad Upadhyaya, Raj Kumar Malla, Lok Darshan Regmi, Shanker Adhikary and Sriranjan Lakaul to the post of secretaries. [break]
While Thapa has been appointed as foreign secretary, all others have been appointed as regional administrators at various Regional Administration Offices under the home ministry. The post of foreign secretary had fallen vacant after foreign secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai was appointed Nepal´s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN in New York a few days ago.
According to Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Prasad Poudel, the cabinet meeting also decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 500,000 each for the medical treatment of former PM Marich Man Singh Shrestha and NC leader Chakra Prasad Bastola and up to Rs 500,000 in financial assistance for the treatment of popular singer Dharma Raj Thapa, NC central working committee member Gopal Raj Pahari and one Arabinda Thakur.
Among other things, the cabinet meeting also gave a nod to the home ministry to create 203 permanent position and 26 contract positions at various levels in the National Investigation Department and appoint Sushil Koirala and Dr Shivahari Shrestha as the general managers of Gorkhapatra Corporation and Nepal Food Corporation, respectively.
