Five more fair price outlets and two more mobile shops will be launched on Saturday.[break]
One fair price shop each at Trade Tower in Thapathali and Pulchowk in Lalitpur as well as three mobile shops targetting the people residing inside the Ring Road have been opened on Sunday.
According to Ganesh Dhakal, spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS), National Trading Ltd (NTL) will open two fair price outlets in Singha Durbar, Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) will open one in Thapathali while Salt Trading Corporation (STC) will open fair price shops in Jadibuti and Kalimati.
General consumers will get food commodities through these shops till November 1.
"We have also requested District Administration Offices across the country to open fair price shops in the district headquarters to give relief to the general public during the upcoming Dashain, Tihar and Chhat festivals," said Dhakal.
The fair price outlets and mobile shops will showcase daily cosumable food commodities including sugar, edible oil, pulse, rice, beaten rice, peas, grams, flour, salt, dairy products, liquors, among others. They also sell kitchen utensils and home appliances.
According to an official at NFC, seven stalls have been established in the fair price shop at Trade Tower, Thapathali.
"Besides fair price shops, we have arranged mobile shops to help the consumer purchase daily commodities in their localities and make sure that no shortage of food commodities occurs during the festival," said Hari Narayan Shah, general manager of NFC.
Bhagawati Rana, department chief of STC, said fair price outlets and mobiles shops are aimed at providing not only easy access to food commodities but also quality goods to the general public during the festive season.
Inaugurating the fair price outlet at Trade Tower, Lekh Raj Bhatta, Minister for Commerce and Supplies (MoCS), vowed to intensify the drive against black marketeers by establishing fair practices in the market.
He said that the government is working to put in place a mechanism to provide essential commodities on a subsidized rate.
