TAPLEJUNG, Feb 25: The government on Monday invited the agitating parties to talks, temporarily halting construction of the cable car project in the Pathibhara (Mukkumlung) area of Taplejung.

Issuing a statement on Monday, the negotiation team led by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Prem Prasad Bhattarai invited the agitating parties, including the 'No Cable Car Group', for discussions.

The negotiation team has expressed its commitment to address the social, religious, and cultural issues raised by the local community through talks.

The statement read, “The government is willing to resolve the problem through talks and dialogue by postponing the construction of the cable car for now.” The government has continued its efforts to find a consensus, urging the agitating parties to participate in the talks.

Earlier, an agreement was reached on February 4 to suspend the construction work. Despite an agreement to hold high-level political talks on February 9, the agitating parties refused to discuss with the government negotiation team and took a stand to hold a discussion only with the top-level political leadership.
