KATHMANDU, March 24: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has accused the Maoist-led government of ignoring its main responsibilities and indulging in unnecessary issues. [break]

“This government has a mandate only for formulating new constitution but it has not paid attention toward this end,” said Koirala while addressing party cadres at his home in Biratnagar where he arrived Monday to campaign for his party for the 10 April by-elections. Koirala said the government does not have authority to make long-term decision. “But it has been making decisions after decisions without consulting others,” he said.

Koirala also blamed the Maoist government of launching populist programs aimed at winning the polls. “This government which has not even been able to provide electricity and drinking water to the people has started self-employment programs,” said Koirala.

Koirala reiterated that Nepali Congress would join the government if the Maoists implemented past agreements and returned to politics of consensus.
