KATHMANDU, March 19: Agitating industrialists associated with Morang Industries Association (MIA) on Thursday reached an understanding with the government after the latter agreed to fulfill its demands such as declaring industrial estates as a strike-free zone and committed to form an industrial security force in two weeks. The government also agreed to positively consider the association’s demand of waiving off demand charge (minimum charge) of electricity bills during the load-shedding period. An understanding to these effects was reached very recently at the Ministry of Industry, where entrepreneurs were in talks with Industry Minister Asta Laxmi Shakya, said an entrepreneur.
Entrepreneurs based in the eastern region launched a protest program a week ago, demanding the government declare an ‘industrial crisis’ in the country and pledge various facilities so as to enable them to operate industries smoothly.
The government also committed to positively look at ‘no work, no pay’, one of their major demands. Although their actual demand was ‘incorporation of hire and fire provision in the new industrial policy’, the government has preferred to discuss the ‘no work, no pay’ policy.
