KATHMANDU, Dec 31: A cabinet meeting on Wednesday accepted the notice submitted by former Chief Justice Bishwonath Upadhyaya, stating his reluctance to become a Constituent Assembly (CA) member.

Upadhyaya is one of 26 CA members nominated by the government, but he did not take his oath of membership. The Nepali Congress had recommended his name for the membership.

The cabinet meeting also decided to provide Rs 1 million to the Federation of Nepali Journalists, the umbrella organization of Nepali media persons, for the purpose of constructing its office building, according to Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

The meeting also discussed finalizing the composition of different constitutional bodies, but failed to reach any agreement over the matter. However, it approved the Terms of Reference of the high level commission on resolving problems of sukumbasi (landless squatters).
