KATHMANDU, Dec 6: American wicketkeeper batsman Andries Gous registered the first century of the ongoing Nepal Premier League, scoring an unbeaten 104 runs off 55 balls against Lumbini Lions in the match held at the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground on Friday.
Gous, having opened for the Pokhara Avengers, steered the team to a win by 10 wickets with 22 balls remaining from the allotted 20 overs. He scored the quickfire century off 54 deliveries, having scored the first 50 runs off just 20 balls. With Friday’s score, Gous moved up to the fourth position in the list of most runs scored in the NPL, with a total of 124 runs.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, Lions posted a total of 170 runs losing five wickets in the first inning. Lions’ captain briefly held the first spot for the highest individual run scored in a match of the NPL by scoring 95 runs off 59 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes.
Avengers started off their batting attack with a blitz as they scored 50 runs in 3.5 overs and a total of 80 runs in the powerplay. The opening duo of Gous and Dinesh Kharel scored 100 off 49 balls, 115 runs in the first 10 overs, and 150 runs in 14.3 overs. Kharel played an unbeaten inning of 61 runs off 46 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes. He finished the chase in style by hitting Surya Tamang for a six in the final delivery.
