Former MPRF-D leaders at gathering to announce new party

KATHMANDU, June 27:
The two-day national gathering of former leaders and cadres of the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D), set to announce a new party, is underway at Rastriya Sabha Griha in the capital on Wednesday.



Addressing the inaugural session of the gathering, Sharat Singh Bhandari, who leads the group of MPRF-D deserters, described the meet as a milestone in securing rights of all indigenous, ethnic, Madhesi, Muslim and Dalit communities and other marginalized groups. [break]



"Our aim is to ensure identity and rights to those who have been denied their rights and identity," Bhandari said, adding that they would fight for representation of all marginalized and disadvantaged communities at all level of state mechanisms.



The closed session of the gathering begins at 3 pm.



Around 2,500 leaders and cadres from 27 districts are taking part in the meet. The leaders are scheduled to announce a new party amid a press conference on Thursday after the completion of the gathering that would also endorse the statute, name and flag of the new party.



Bhandari and several other central committee members had been expelled from MPRF-D for their alleged involvement in activities against the party´s policy and discipline last month.
