KATHMANDU: The government and armed outfits in Tarai are to hold formal talks in the capital from Thursday, according to a government source.

A three-member team of Tarai Virus Killers led by ‘Jaya Prakash’ will hold the dialogue with the government after informal parleys with government ministers and leaders of parties in the coalition government.

Among major demands of the armed outfits active in the Tarai are autonomy to single Madhes state and withdrawal of cases of crimes against their members. Many of these outfits have been allegedly involved in murder, abduction for ransom and extortion.

The government has also formally written to about 20 such armed groups, including JTMM led by Jwala Singh and ATMM by Jaya Krishna Goit.
