Debu Jha, 11 of Duhabi in Dhanusha, Salamat Rain, 60, of Itaharwa-7, Allahudin Laheri of Janakpur-1, and Kalika Khatun and Samatula Khatun of Balhagoth-3, were injured after three compartments of the train derailed near Mahuwa village at around 11:30 AM. [break]
According to Janakpur Zonal Hosptial, Allahudin is in a critical condition.
The police informed that the rundown railway compartment overloaded with goods had slipped off the track.
As the railway is the only means of transportation for the people in south-eastern part of the district to visit the district headquarters, scores of commuters have been stranded or affected.
Similarly, the businessmen relaying on the Indian market Jayanagar to import goods to the district are also affected due to the disruption of the railway service after the accident.
“After the train accident, the activities at Janakpur customs office have almost come to a standstill,” said Jagadish Purbe, chief at the customs office.
Established 72 years ago by the then British rulers in India to transport wood from Mahottari district in Nepal, the railway line, the 52 kilometer long railway track that linked Bijulpura in Nepal to Jayanagar in India, is now reduced to 29 kilometer.
