The officials at the ministry, however, found the task a tad embarrassing. They admitted that there could have been no way that the vehicles could have been arranged at such a short notice. [break] The OPMCM had instructed the ministry to arrange required vehicles at the eleventh hour on Tuesday, the officials claimed. Moreover, the Home Ministry does not have extra vehicles to distribute to other ministries.
“We, however, borrowed some eight vehicles from the concerned ministries that got new ministers on Wednesday,” Shree Batsa Ghimire, joint secretary and the chief of internal management section at the ministry, told myrepublica.com.
According to home ministry officials, they borrowed three vehicles from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, two from the Ministry of Commerce, two from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and one from the Ministry of Agriculture and cooperatives. The home ministry was only able to offer a single vehicle on its part.
“The cabinet reshuffle placed an additional burden for the arrangement of vehicles,” a source at the ministry told myrepublica.com. It has been learnt, however, that there was shortage of vehicles in the ministry since the last two years.
In the past, the home ministry used to arrange 40 vehicles for ministers and state ministers. Twenty of those vehicles currently being used by ministers are not in good shape. While another 10 of the vehicles are totally rundown.
It is learnt that the ministry has decided to procure 10 new vehicles to make up for the shortfall. A cabinet meeting decided to procure new vehicles for ministers through the home ministry about a month ago.
