Final lineup complete in shooting

KATHMANDU, Oct 9: The finalists of all four events of the Nationwide Open Shooting Championship were confirmed on Tuesday. Based on the points scored in the penultimate rounds, six players were selected in each category -- 10 m air rifle and 10 m air pistol in both men´s and women´s sections - for Wednesday´s finals to be held at the Satdobato Shooting Range.



Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana of Rupandehi advanced into the final of the women´s 10 m air rifle event scoring 386 points out of 400 on Tuesday. Phoolmaya Kyapchaki of Nepal Police finished second in the qualifying event with 380 points to secure a place in the final. Other four players to qualify for the final were Durga Sinjali (376) of Nepal Police, Kulin Rana (376) of Rupandehi, Nira Banjara (371) of Nepal Army and Rusy Thapa (363) of Dang.[break]



In the women´s 10 m air pistol event, Saraswati Baniya of Nepal Police scored 363 points out of 400 to book a place in the final. Shreya KC of Baglung and Seema Tuladhar of Nepal Police finished second and third with 354 and 341 points respectively while Sunita Maharjan (341) of Nepal Army, Sarita Basnet (338) of Nepal Army and Bishnu Kumari Pun (334) of Dang also advanced into the final.



Meanwhile, Tikaram Shrestha of Sunsari secured the first position in the penultimate round of the men´s 10 m air rifle event to qualify for the final. He scored 569 points out of 600. Krishna Ghorasaini of Nepal Army finished second with 557 points while Hari Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Police finished third with 555 points. Asim Yadav (550) of Saptari, Rambabu Dani (549) of Nepal Police and Devendra Lal Shrestha (544) of Bara completed the final lineup.



In the men´s 10 m air pistol event, Sudan Khadka of Nepal Army qualified for Wednesday´s final scoring 551 points out of 600 on Tuesday. His teammate Kuber KC also made it to the final with a score of 549 points in the penultimate round. Other shooters to enter the final were Bivek Raj Dhungel (537) of Dhanusha, Abdul Ansari (530) of Banke, KB Pun (524) of Baglung and Bipesh Khadka (522) of Kathmandu.



The finalists will now compete for 100 points. The top three players will be announced after adding the points obtained in the final to their overall points gained so far. The winner of each category will receive Rs 10,000 while the second and third position holders will get Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
