Yadav Silwal, the company staffer was rescued by a team of Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj from inside the burning excavator.
“We broke the windowpane and pulled him out,” said DSP Deepak Thapa.
Silwal, who had sustained deep burn injuries, was rushed to the Bir Hospital. “I suddenly woke up at around 2 pm to find myself ablaze,” he told in his primary statement to the police. “The police came and saved me.”
MPR has arrested four members of the Chakre gang while Central Investigation Bureau has started an investigation into the incident.
According to DSP Thapa, Chakre, who is currently serving jail sentence for his involvement in arms and drug trafficking, has been extorting realtors through his organized gang.
Police said the Chakre gang had warned the company not to begin work without their permission and demanded Rs 20 million. But when the company owner refused to pay, the gang reduced the amount to Rs 10 million. However, when the company refused to pay even the reduced amount, the gang members had confiscated the keys of dozers.
