Narayan Malla, who teaches at Gram Prakash Higher Secondary School in Parbat, has listed all these errors in a book titled “Hamro Ganit Kitab”.[break]
“If a book itself contains errors, students learn accordingly,” he said. “I exposed these errors on my own to make sure that students learn only what is correct.”
Malla had sent a list of errors to the Curriculum Development Center (CDC) last year. But, no one at the CDC took his points seriously.
All the errors that Malla has exposed are genuine. The book even contains some incorrect formulas. Students can not solve mathematical problems using these erroneous formulas.
“We were startled when we learnt about these errors,” Narayan Bhattachan, District Education Officer of Parbat, told Republica. “We will write to the CDC to rectify the errors at the earliest.”
Education expert Dr Bidhyanath Koirala lambasted the CDC for publishing an error-ridden book. “Earlier, we had found a grade 11 Nepali book containing serious errors,” he said. “It is sad to find another book full of slips. The CDC must not do it again.”
Chitra Devkota, executive director of CDC, said, “I have learnt about these errors. I will definitely get them corrected soon.”
The errors-ridden book is written by Dr Santosh Man Maske and Hari Narayan Upadhayay.
