The prime minister is visiting India on a four-day visit starting October 20.[break]
"I suggested to him that the obstruction in parliament should be ended and he should address the House meeting before leaving for the visit," said Nembang after his meeting with the prime minister Monday. "Also, it would be wise for him to expedite the tasks of peace and constitution writing before leaving for the visit."
According to the speaker, the prime minister assured him of making some progress in advancing the twin tasks before October 20. "I am actively involved in the inter-party talks and I am optimistic in achieving some progress," Nembang quoted the prime minister as saying.
Table bills on TRC, disappearances
Also, Nembang urged the prime minister not to dillydally in finalizing the bills on forming a truth and reconciliation commission (TRC) and a commission on disappearances, which were supposed to be tabled in parliament in the present session.
The prime minister informed the speaker that the parties are yet to settle one of the major contentious issues pertaining to the TRC. Sources said the parties are yet to finalize the definition of the list of crimes that are pardonable and non-pardonable.
"These are the issues that need to be settled at the top political level therefore once the matter is settled the bills will be tabled in parliament," sources quoted the prime minister as telling the speaker.
