KATHMANDU, Dec 8: Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar has initiated discussion with the top leaders of major political parties in an attempt to resolve the ongoing house obstruction by the main opposition party, CPN-UML.

On Thursday, the speaker held separate meeting with the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman K P Sharma Oli. She had urged both the leaders to be serious about the resolving the ongoing House obstruction.

According to sources, UML Chairman Oli during the meeting said that UML would not obstruct House proceedings if the amendment bill was withdrawn. "I hope the political stalemate would not last for long," Oli told journalists after the meeting.

However, NC President Deuba told the speaker that the ruling parties were not in favor of withdrawing the amendment bill. "The House will determine the fate of the bill," he said, indicating that the ruling parties are not in favor of withdrawing it even if it is clear now that it does not command a two-thirds majority votes required for endorsement.

The speaker is scheduled to hold meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center) to resolve the House obstruction that began after the government's move to register a seven-point amendment bill in parliament last week.
