A meeting of the commission on Saturday also allocated election symbols to the political parties that have filed applications to contest the polls.[break]
"The EC has set the order of sequence of political parties in the same sequence they [parties] had filed their applications to get registered with the commission for the purpose of contesting in the CA polls," Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Uprety told Republica.
Now, the CPN-UML will appear at the top of the PR ballot papers, UCPN (Maoist) second, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal third, Nepali Congress (NC) fourth and Communist Party of Nepal(Marxist-Leninist) in the fifth place.
Similarly, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) will be placed in the sixth place in the PR ballot papers, Sadbhawana Party in the seventh, Rastriya Prajatantra Party in the eighth, Madhesi People´s Right Forum (MPRF) in the ninth and Sanghiya Lokatantrik Rastriya Manch (Tharuhat) in the tenth place.
The EC on April 30, the first day of registering political parties, had witnessed a dispute between UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML over which of them should be registered first.
Altogether 140 political parties had applied to get registered at the EC for the upcoming elections but the commission registered 132 political parties while disqualifying eight.
Later, the number of registered parties came down to 130 after four parties merged to form two parties. Out of the 130 parties, 124 had filed applications to contest under proportional electoral system while only 122 submitted closed list of their candidates to participate in the proportional electoral system.
EC begins to print PR ballot papers
Following submission of closed list of candidates for proportional electoral system, the EC on Saturday began printing ballot papers for the PR system.
The commission sent a copy of its decision on printing PR ballot papers to the state-owned Janak Education Materials Center (JEMC).
According to Uprety, JEMC will print 15 million ballot papers for proportional electoral system within the next 15 days. Each ballot paper will bear four separate signatures of the chief election commissioner.
The size of ballot paper for the proportional electoral system will be bigger as the number of political parties has significantly increased as compared to the 2008 CA election.
Uprety informed that officials at JEMC will work in three shifts in order to print the ballot papers for proportional electoral system. Each shift will have 70 staff, said the chief election commissioner.
The government has deployed Nepal Army (NA) and Nepal Police to provide security at JEMC when the ballot papers are printed.
While NA will oversee the internal security at JEMC, Nepal Police has been deployed for the outer security at JEMC.
