According to EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai, returning officers in five election constituencies disqualified five FPTP candidates after studying complaints against them.
The commission disqualified Sudan Khand Thakuri of Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party-Nepal as he does not meet the age requirement for candidacy. As per the laws, a candidate should have attained 25 years of age to contest in the polls. Khand had filed candidacy under FPTP electoral system from constituency 2 of Dhading district. [break]
Satya Narayan Prasad of Sadbhavana Party was also disqualified from the race as he had not submitted the party´s recommendation for his candidacy. Prasad had filed candidacy from constituency 3 of Parsa district.
Similarly, an independent candidate Alok Kumar Chuarasiya from constituency 3 of Parsa district has also lost his candidacy as he is only 24 years old.
Likewise, the returning officer of constituency 2 of Nuwakot district disqualified candidacy of Badri Mainali of CPN-UML as he was found to have written his name in place of an official candidate of the party. CPN-UML had picked Shanta Thapa as the party´s official candidate under FPTP electoral system from constituency 2 of Nuwakot district.
The commission has also disqualified Dilli Bahadur Bista of Nepal Shanti Kshetra Parishad as he has not attained the required age for candidacy. Bista had filed candidacy from constituency 4 of Kailali district.
Meanwhile, Pasang Dorje Sherpa, an independent candidate from constituency number 1 of Bhojpur has withdrawn his candidacy.
According to EC officials, the commission scraped three other complaints and objections after finding them invalid.
Altogether 6,343 candidates from various political parties and independents on Thursday had filed their candidacies across the country for contesting under FPTP electoral system. Of them, 664 are women and one is third gender.
Similarly, 1,147 independent candidates have filed candidacies under FPTP electoral system and 68 of them are women.
Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Uprety said the offices of all 240 returning officers have been vetting the FPTP candidacies across the country.
“The commission will come up with a final list of FPTP candidates only after verifying the candidacies,” added the chief commissioner.
