KATHMANDU, Sept 17: Dr Govinda KC, a senior professor at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), has said that any change in the past agreements with the government and the dilly-dallying over the implementation of the Mathema task force report will be unacceptable to him. He told Republica that he would wait until Friday afternoon for the implementation of the accords.
"Any change in the agreements will be unacceptable to me. I will wait until Friday afternoon before resuming hunger strike," Said Dr KC on Thursday.According to Dr KC, the government's decision to form health professionals' education commission under the leadership of education minister is unacceptable. "The commission should be formed under the leadership of the prime minister," he added.
The Social Affairs Committee of the cabinet on Wednesday decided to set up a health professionals' education commission under the leadership of education minister.
Dr KC has staged hunger strike six times in the past demanding reforms in the medical education sector.
Most recently, he had ended his 14-day fast-unto-death some two weeks ago following a 11-point deal with the government. As per the agreement, the government has to endorse the deal from the cabinet.
Dr KC informed that Dr Govinda Pokhrel, vice chancellor (VC) of the National Planning Commission (NPC) who struck a deal with him on behalf of the government, has assured him of the endorsement of past agreements by the cabinet meeting, scheduled to be held on Friday.
