JANAKPUR, Sept 5: The Janakpur Zonal Hospital administration on Wednesday suspended a doctor whose negligence allegedly caused the death of a birthing mother three days ago.

Earlier in the day, an all-party meeting had asked the hospital administration to immediately suspend Dr Dipendra Yadav.[break]

The locals had alleged that Yadav´s negligence led to the death of Ragini Sah, of Janakpur-8 in Dhanusha district, on Sunday. Shah was admitted to the maternity ward of the zonal hospital to deliver her baby.

A day after Sah´s death, the enraged locals padlocked the administration office of the zonal hospital, demanding Yadav be suspended.

On Wednesday, the all-party meeting also formed an 11-member probe committee to look into Sah´s death. The committee has been asked to submit its report in three weeks. Until the committee comes up with its findings, Dr Yadav´s suspension will remain in effect.

Meanwhile, the zonal hospital administration has decided not to offer caesarian service until the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) deputes an expert in Dhanusha. However, the service will be available to those who demand it, read a statement issued by the hospital administration on Wednesday.
