Deuba, who is on a six-day official visit to India, held a meeting with Indian PM Singh at the latter´s official residence at 7 Race Course Road for about 35 minutes, said NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi who was also present in the meeting. [break]
During the meeting Indian PM Singh said that the Indian establishment wants to see stability and strengthened multi-party democracy in Nepal.
“The Indian PM said that India wants to see consensus among the NC and other political parties to settle disputes on key issues related to the promulgation of the new constitution and other ongoing political issues . He said he is hopeful that Nepal would make headway soon, resolving the ongoing stalemate,” Nidhi said talking to Republica over the phone.
During the meeting, Indian PM Singh wished that Nepal would be able to hold fresh Constituent Assembly elections at the earliest and move forward for lasting peace, democracy and economic prosperity. “The Indian establishment is ready to provide all kinds of assistance to conduct CA elections,” Nidhi said quoting Indian PM Dr. Singh.
Deuba applauded India’s role while signing the 12th point understanding between the-then rebel Maoists and the democratic forces. He underscored Indian support for successful conclusion of Nepal’s peace process. Deuba requested PM Singh to provide logistic supports for holding fresh CA elections.
According to Nidhi, during the meeting, Deuba tabled a five-point proposal for Nepal’s economic development and requested the Indian PM for providing financial assistance for the construction of a bridge over the Mahakali River that links Banbasa to Mahendranagar, the Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast-track road and another bridge that links Jogbudha and Jogbudha to Punarabedi.
Responding to Deuba’s request, Indian PM said India was committed to providing financial assistance for Nepal’s economic development. Indian National Security Advisor Shiva Shanker Menon, Indian ambassador to Nepal Jayanata Prasad, Deuba’s spouse Arju and counselor at the Nepal embassy in New Delhi Tirtha Wagle were also present on the occasion.
