DHANGADHI, May 1: Students, locals and business community at Dhangadhi in Kailali district staged demonstration Friday morning against the ongoing banda (general strike) called on by Joint Tharuhat Struggle Committee (JTSC).

Hundreds of demonstrators took a round of Dhangadhi municipality. They chanted slogans demanding security, law and order, end of closure of educational institutions and business organizations. They also demanded end of vandalism. [break]

Representatives from business community, civil society and student leaders later addressed a street corner meeting.

Local business persons and JTSC cadres had clashed Thursday evening when the latter forced the businesspersons to pull their shutters in their shops and offices at Shivanagar.

Local administration deployed police in large number in view of possible clash between JTSC cadres and other communities, who protested against frequent protests.

Life in several Tarai and hilly districts has been crippled as the JTSC-called general strike enters tenth consecutive day on Friday.

The JTSC launched protests accusing the government of not implementing the six-point agreement reached between the two sides on March 14.
