Demand to stop chicken imports

KANCHANPUR, Sept 5: Poultry farmers of the district have demanded to stop importing hens and chickens.



Saying that smugglers have illegally been importing broiler chickens via local Belauri and suspension bridge over Mahakali, locals demanded the local administration take necessary action against them.



Chickens are being imported in six motorbikes every day via Belauri area in collaboration of Nepali and Indian smugglers, said Farmers Association secretary Rewan Chaudhari.



Chicken imported from India is being sold at Rs. 90 per kg while it is Rs. 150 for chickens produced in Nepal. Nepali fresh houses have been hit hard when Indian chickens are available in cheaper price, he stressed to stop the import of chickens from India.
