KATHMANDU, Oct 11: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday proposed to CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal to be ready to promulgate a new constitution while deferring the unresolved issues for the new parliament.

Though Khanal described the proposal as a positive idea he downplayed it, saying Dahal´s commitment could not be trusted. [break]

"It is not a bad idea but he [Dahal] may come up with some other proposal at the next meeting," Khanal told reporters after a half-hour meeting held at Singha Durbar.

Dahal earlier this week tried to woo Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala with the same proposal. However, Koirala is reluctant to reinstate the 601-member jumbo legislative body.

According to sources close to Khanal, Dahal tried to convince him that there was no alternative to reviving the CA for a brief period just for the purpose of promulgating a new constitution and laying the ground for new elections.

Dahal is trying to woo other party chiefs also while both the opposition parties NC and CPN-UML are sharply divided within themselves over the proposal to revive the CA.

NC President Sushil Koirala in his party and KP Sharma Oli, among others in the CPN-UML, are firmly against the idea of reviving the 601-member House that was dissolved on May 27 without promulgating a new constitution.
