KATHMANDU, July 30: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) to support him in the prime ministerial run-off.
Talking to media persons, Dahal said they are positive about the demand put forth by the NWPP. He expressed hope that NWPP would support him in the next round of voting. [break]
Dahal, accompanied by the party´s Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, on Friday afternoon met NWPP Narayan Man Bijukchhe in Bhaktapur.
NWPP had stayed neutral in previous two rounds of voting arguing both NC and the Maoists had failed to commit to their 15-point demand.
Among other things, the NWPP has demanded establishment of chemical fertilizer industries in Nepal, smooth supply of chemical fertilizer in the country, import of petroleum products from China, curbing deforestation, and formation of a cabinet of not more than 25 ministers.
Dahal said that the party won´t make unreasonable compromises with any other party for the formation of the new government. “We respect the demands and sentiments of Madhesi, indigenous nationalities, dalits and marginalized communities,” he said. “But we will not make unreasonable compromises with any party.”
NWPP commands five seats in parliament. The party stayed neutral during the second round of voting even as the Nepali Congress expressed written commitment to address the party´s demands.
