To say it is tough would be an understatement. You feel the pinch each time you narrow down the playlist to a handful from almost 30 songs that we get fresh every week, zipped all the way from Radio Express Inc. in Burbank, California. [break]
After a marathon back-to-back play, here I present the fresh of the crop that have got my approval. Now it is your turn to give the nod.
Foo Fighters, formed in 1994 by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, is back with their seventh album.
After scaling the uppermost heights of modern Rock stardom – which includes Grammy Awards, sellout stadium shows, occasionally drumming for Paul McCartney – Grohl built a recording studio in his San Fernando Valley garage last year and started work on “Wasting Light,” which includes a guest appearance by Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic.
Grohl recently told the concert audience, ““These Days” is the best song I’ve written, like ever!” He was not lying. The song beat stiff competition and made it to the top as the Pick of the Pack song on Hits FM 91.2.
Katy Perry is going through the list of all her past liaisons in her new single, “The One That Got Away.” A clever move on the buxom beauty’s part, she is making sure her presence in radio land remains intact, with the constant trickling of songs.
A trick of the trade not lost on Brit singer Taio Cruz, who recently hooked up with Flo Rida for the party anthem “Hangover,” is the first single to be taken from Taio’s upcoming “TY.O” due in December.
The tune is catchy and it should fare well in the club scene – although its similar ring to Ke$sha’s “Tik Tok” and Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” might come as a major pet peeve for some fans. Just warning!
A voice that earned her a first-place finish at a BBC singing competition in 2001, Brit singer Joss Stone was only 16 when she hit the mainstream in 2003.

Armed with a powerful voice and a signature vintage, soul sound, Stone, however, has been constantly reinventing herself. Her fifth “LP1” is her most conventional record, yet boasting sturdy tough-girl lyrics laced with sturdy Blues-Rock arrangements.
“Now you’re telling me you’re sorry,” she reproaches one soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend on her new single, “Don’t Start Lying To Me Now.”
Two chanteuses from different parts of the world have managed to transfix us. First up is the Romanian singer Antonia who was voted the sexiest woman in the world, according to For Him Magazine (FHM) in Romania.
She is rocking a brand-new radio single, “Marionette,” that will no doubt help introduce the singer to a larger audience.
And on the other end of the spectrum is New Zealand songbird Brooke Fraser, who is a stunner, no less.
The folk-pop star was recently on cloud nine after nabbing five awards at the New Zealand Music Festival.
The list of trophy includes “People’s Choice” and “International Achievement” awards for her success abroad.
So, we are not the only ones smitten by this beauty from the Land of the Kiwis. She’s paying her tributes to the annual Coachella Festival in her new single “Coachella,” taken from her album “Flags.”
The diversity and the flexibility with which different instruments and dialects can all blend into each other is what I find most fascinating about music. And to end our eclectic selection, here is a piece that is no less eclectic in its ensemble.
Sri Lankan singer Iraj teams up with Bangladeshi rapper Kona and Bengali singer Markia to give a smooth melody lasting four minutes, which finishes way too soon, thanks to its infectious mix of English and Bangla words.
“You Love” definitely solidifies the notion of music being the perfect medium for expression and carrier of emotion – it crosses colors, languages and religious barriers.
