KATHMANDU, April 10: The cricket semifinal match between Region No. 3 Kathmandu and Region No. 4 Bhairahawa under the ongoing Fifth National Games couldn’t get started on Friday too. The match was scheduled to be played at the Kirtipur Cricket Ground on Friday, but Region No. 6 Baitadi protested questioning Kathmandu´s qualification for the last four after boycotting a league match against Baitadi. [break]

Kathmandu abandoned its league match against Baitadi on Wednesday when both teams’ players were inside the field. Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) later intervened and demanded an explanation from the Kathmandu players. It rescheduled the match between Kathmandu and Baitadi for Thursday but this also could not materialized as Baitadi refused to play Kathmandu. After Baitadi’s refusal, CAN selected Kathmandu to play for the semifinal spot.

Baitadi’s players and officials are accusing CAN of favoring Kathmandu and advancing it to the last four instead of penalizing the team on disciplinary grounds. Baitadi are demanding that they should be in the semifinal spot instead of Kathmandu. CAN and Baitadi officials are locking horns over the issue and no headway had been made at the time of filing this report.
