KATHMANDU, June 19: The ruling CPN-ML said on Saturday that the party is in favor of a national consensus government. The ongoing Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the party has decided that Prime Minister Madhav Nepal should step down to pave way for the formation of such government.

"But this should take place only after the Maoists implement past agreements reached with the government and other parties," said party chairman CP Mainali.

The CWC meeting has also stressed on the need to implement the three-point deal reached on May 28. "The implementation of the three-point deal and the resignation of the prime minister should go simultaneously," said Mainali.

"A majority government should not be choice of any party," Mainali said. "Our past experiences have also shown that it is not at the interest of the country and people at the moment."

The CPN-ML has nine seats in parliament. The meeting that began on Friday will last till Sunday.
