Contractors thrash journalists over news report

RUKUM, Nov 3: Rukum-based contractors Suman Malla and Ram Bahadur Bista on Wednesday thrashed three local journalists for reporting the death threat issued to a member of the Nepal Students´ Union.



Rastriya Samachar Samiti reporter Deepak Sangam Thapa, Naya Patrika daily reporter Adarsha KC and Avenues TV correspondent Dinesh Khada were thrashed by the duo in Rukum Bazar. [break]They also threatened Nagarik Daily´s correspondent Kamal Thapa for reporting the incident. The contractors, who were drunk, had also hurled obscenities at the journalists.



The Wednesday´s edition of Nagarik daily reported that Malla had issued death threats to NSU member Khadak Bahadur Dangi after the latter complained of irregularities in the supply of ration to the Famous Mahinda Battalion of the Nepal Army.



Following the attack on journalists, the district chapter of Federation of Nepali journalist held an emergency meeting and drew the attention of the District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hom Jung Chauchan to the incident. DSP Chauhan has vowed he would take action against the guilty.



FNJ district chapter -Rukum, Nepal Press Union and Press Chautari have demanded action against the offenders.



The Nepal Student Union and Nepal Tarun Dal have claimed that there have been “grave irregularities” in the supply of ration to the Nepal Army, the Nepal Police and also in the ongoing construction of Tribhuvan Janata Higher Secondary School.
