The committee on Sunday discussed issues of pertaining to rights of Madhesi, women and dalits that need to be guaranteed by the new constitution. Dalit rights defender Tek Tamrakar, women rights activist Shanta Thapaliya and former Attorney General Mahadev Yadav suggested the committee to categorically mention the rights of the marginalized communities in the constitution and provide for special punitive measures against the violators of these rights.
Tamrakar suggested that the constitution must categorically mention the rights of the excluded communities to ensure socio-economic justice. "We can ensure economic and political rights to dalits only if we abolish social exclusion," he said.
Professor Shanta Thapaliya suggested that the women´s rights must be clearly enshrined in the constitution.
