"The first need of the hour is to give a solution by holding election soon," CPN-UML Chairman Khanal said while inaugurating the general convention of the party´s youth wing Youth Association Nepal in Butwal.[break]
He claimed that the country was pushed into political as well as constitutional crises after the UCPN (Maoist)-led government dissolved the Constituent Assembly (CA). "Therefore, we decided to bring the country into right political course by holding an election," he added.
Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said it was high time that the derailed political course is brought to the right course and democratic system strengthened in the country by holding elections.
"Merely declaring the country a republic cannot be a great achievement. Institutionalizing the republic system is more important," said Nepal at the function. He accused UCPN (Maoist) leaders of weakening the democratic system in the country.
Another leader KP Sharma Oli accused Maoist leaders of spreading frustration among the public by creating one crisis after another in the country. "Election has become necessary to create hope in the people," said Oli.
UML Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam also emphasized the need to hold election for ending uncertainty and ensuring stability in the country.
The top leaders gathered at the inaugural session of the general convention of the party´s youth wing. Around 1,500 representatives from across the country have gathered in Butwal to elect new leadership of the youth organization. The convention is scheduled to conclude Sunday.
