Citizen Bank's Bhandari awarded<br/>Cheers beer relaunched

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Nepal Youth Society, Kathmandu, has conferred Rajan Singh Bhandari, chief executive officer of Citizens Bank International, with National Service Award 2009, recognizing his commitment, involvement and contribution in the development of the banking sector. [break]



Issuing a press release, the bank announced that Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Mrigendra Kumar Singh Yadav handed over the award to Bhandari on Saturday.



Established some two-and-a-half years ago with its head office in Kamaladi, Citizens Bank presently operates with 17 branches across the country and has client base of more than 54,000.



As of mid-July 2009, the bank has mobilized deposits of Rs 11.52 billion and invested Rs 8.21 billion, earning net profit of Rs 95.80 million in the last fiscal year.





Cheers beer relaunched



KATHMANDU, Sept 21: United Brewery, the first beer manufacturer of the country, has relaunched Cheers brand of beer, after stopping its production for about a decade.



According to a press release, the relaunched Cheers beer is produced by using Japanese technology. Previously, it was produced with German technology. “Cheers comes in an attractive new package and has special taste that will be liked by Nepali consumers,” states the release.



The company has further announced a plan to diversify its products. Star beer and Star Gold are other two known brands of United Brewery.





Shubha Laxmi posts a profit of Rs 7.3m



KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Shubha Laxmi Finance Limited has posted a net profit of Rs 7.3 million in the last fiscal year.



At the second annual general meeting held on Monday, Achyut Ballav Pant, chairman of the finance company, stated that the company over the two years of its operation has mobilized deposits of Rs 351.7 million over the two years of its operation as at the end of the last fiscal year. Deposits of Rs 236.8 million that the company mobilized in 2008/09 was two-fold rise over what was mobilized a year ago, states a press release.



The company had issued loans of Rs 324.5 million during the year, which was 69 percent more than what it issued in the previous fiscal year.



On the occasion, the company also announced a plan of extending branches in different parts of the country, providing SMS banking and ATM services in the near future.





Global Bank in Dhapasi



KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Global Bank Limited has opened a new branch in Basundhara of Dhapasi. Chairman of the bank Chandra Prasad Dhakal inaugurated the branch amid a function on Monday. With this new branch, the number of branches of the bank has reached 20.



Likewise, director of the bank Krishna Bahadur Kunwar also inaugurated the automated teller machine (ATM) at the branch on Monday. With this new ATM kiosk, the number of ATMs in Global Bank´s network has reached 25.



Issuing a press release, the bank has announced that the new branch in Basundhara will extend full-fledged banking services and also provide locker facility.



On the occasion of Dashain festival, the bank has recently launched Global Family Savings Scheme, under which it has promised 10 percent interest return to the depositors. Under the scheme, the customers can also enjoy free Global visa debit card, 50 percent discount on educational loans processing charge and 30 percent discount on locker service.
