CIAA sues lawmaker, 9 officials

KATHMANDU, Nov 29: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday filed cases at the Special Court against lawmaker Shiva Pujan Raya Yadav and eight government officials accusing them of misusing diplomatic passports and committing corruption.



According to CIAA spokesman Ishwari Paudel, the commission has demanded that each of the nine should be fined Rs 2.2 million. [break]



According to the CIAA, lawmaker Yadav had received bribes from Gopal Baniya, Manoj Kumar Karki, Devendra Paudel, Santosh Raj Uprety and Ashish aka Dil Bahadur Gharti after providing them his diplomatic passport.  



Along with lawmaker Yadav, the commission has filed cases against Baniya, Karki, Paudel, Uprety and Gharti. They were middlemen in the red passport scam. Immigration officials Ramesh Lamsal, Devi Datta Khatri and computer officer Indra Kumar Sunuwar have also been accused in the CIAA charge sheet.
