KATHMANDU March 18: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has expressed concern over the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP)' plan to provide financial assistance for medical treatment to over 300 persons, including top bureaucrats and individuals on the basis of fake and forged documents.

The anti-graft body said in a statement on Tuesday that the MoHP is going to distribute the money to some top bureaucrats and individuals even though such funds are especially meant for the marginalized and poor people who can't afford medical expenses.

Generally, MoHP and the Ministry of Finance allocate money to the marginalized and poor people, who cannot afford medical expenses, on the recommendation of the cabinet.

However, in its press statement, the CIAA has not mentioned the names of individuals who are going to receive medical expenses from the state coffers.

The CIAA has asked Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal to set criteria for distribution of financial assistance for medical treatment of top bureaucrats and individuals. It has also directed chief secretary to provide such amount only to the marginalized and poor people.
