BUSINESS BRIEFS: PAC directs CIAA to complete probe

KATHMANDU, Dec 17: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of legislature-parliament Friday decided to ask the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to complete its investigation on Nepal Airline Corporation´s aircraft procurement process at the earliest.



Speaking at the meeting, lawmakers of different political parties said it was important to bring officials involved in irregularities in the procurement process to the book in order to resolve the issue. [break]



CIAA Secretary Bhagawati Kafle informed lawmakers that the investigation was at its final stage.



"Preliminary investigation has revealed that officials of Nepal Airlines Corporation violated laws while sending the lock-up money," Kafle said.


FNCCI officials meet Sri Lankan delegates



Officials of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Friday held discussion with trade delegates of Sri Lanka who are here to participate in the 10th SAARC Trade Fair. The officials discussed bilateral trade, investment and tourism promotion, FNCCI said in a statement.



They also emphasised on the need to establish direct air connection between the two countries to further promote trade relations. FNCCI President Kush Kumar Joshi said they will always work to strengthen trade relations between the two countries.


Local bodies to promote NTY 2011



Five municipalities in Kathmandu Valley -- Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Madhyapur and Kirtipur -- have unveiled different programs for the success of Nepal Tourism Year 2011. At an interaction organized by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Friday, officials of the five municipalities said they were trying to making cities cleaner and working out plans to facilitate tourists at major tourist destinations in their areas.



Building public restrooms, erecting information boards and cleaning roads are some of the things that the municipalities have been dowing. Damodar Suwal of Bhaktapur Municipality said they were establishing an information technology center with free internet service at the entrance to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Suwal also informed that they were building more restrooms at the palace square and bus park area.
