The District Administration Office, Gorkha has been distributing compensation to landowners of Ghyalchowk 9, Siurenitar, Gorkha. The 1200 megawatts project had acquisitioned 134 ropani of land in the area. The project said it would distribute a total of Rs 106.6 million in compensation to the landowners.According to project engineer Ananda Poudel, the committee distributed compensation to 30 landowners at the rate of Rs 715,000 per ropani on Wednesday.
The subcommittee formed by the project development committee has issued a 30-day notice to the land owners to collect compensation from the DAO.
Chief District Officer Uddhab Poudel said distribution of compensation to landowners had been obstructed due to the recent earthquakes. "Instead of allowing the budget allocated to freeze, we concluded that it's better to speed up distribution of compensation to the landowners."
Previously, the project development committee had remained undecided over whether the committee's office should be set up in Gorkha or Dhading districts.
Also, the committee has started work on preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Budhigandaki hydropower project.
