KATHMANDU, April 30: President Bidya Bhandari has approved the government's recommendation to call the budget session of the federal parliament on May 6.
The budget session of the parliament, which is considered to be one of the most important sessions in parliament, will endorse the fiscal budget and hold a discussion on fiscal plans and policies for the next fiscal year.
Two days after the cabinet recommended the president to call the budget session on May 6, the Office of President on Sunday wrote a letter to the parliament secretariat asking the latter to summon the budget session on that date.
What is missing in budget for agriculture?
The constitution requires the president to summon the budget session based on the recommendation of the government.
The session of both houses of parliament will now begin at 4 pm on May 6, according to officials at the parliament secretariat. This timely summoning of the budget session is expected to pave the way for unveiling the budget for the new fiscal year within May 29, the deadline set by the constitution.
Officials at the parliament secretariat say that President Bhandari is likely to present the government's policy and program in parliament on May 15. There will be weeklong deliberation on the policy and program. The budget is likely to be presented on the third week of May.
