BRIEF NEWS: NC ups consultations

KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Nepali Congress (NC) has expedited meetings with various political parties to chalk out a common strategy for the special session scheduled to begin from December 19.



The party held a meeting with various 15 political parties that are against the petition filed by the Maoist for Special Session at the party´s headquarters in Sanepa Thursday afternoon. [break]



Talking to media persons after the meeting, NC leader Arjun Nara Singh KC said the meeting was aimed at forging common strategy to deal with the Maoist proposal in the House. He said that the meeting decided to frustrate the Maoist proposal to scrap NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel´s prime ministerial candidacy.



NC is also scheduled to hold discussions with the UML too.



Absconding soldier arrested



Nepal Army on Thursday has arrested rifleman Dipak Bahadur Shahi, who had absconded with a weapon on December 9. He was arrested from the jungles in Kailali district. In a statement, NA said Shahi was hiding in the jungles while a team deputed from NA´s farwestern division apprehended him with the weapon.



An investigation is underway, the statement said.
