BP Hospital to add 200 beds

CHITWAN, Sept 25: BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospiital in Bharatpur, Chitwan is set to add 200 beds keeping in mind the growing number of cancer patients in Nepal every year.



Nepal witnesses new patients of cancer at the range of 35,000 to 40,000 every year, statistic reveals.[break]



There are only 100 beds in operation in the hospital at the moment. In addition, Dharan, Manipal of Pokhara, Bir, Teaching, Kanti of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur are also providing treatment service to the cancer afflicted in Nepal.



It was informed at an interaction programme organized in the premises of hospital on Friday ahead of the sixth national cancer alert day.



The government observes the Asoj 10 (September 25) as national cancer alert day every year. According to the information provided at the programme, as much as 86,650 patients had reportedly received check-up service in OPD during the last fiscal year. The number of patients having health examination from OPD was 74,000 in the fiscal year of 2007-08.



On the occasion, Executive Director of the hospital Dr. Bhakta Man Shrestha informed that the number of women visiting hospital for treatment and the patients taking admission in the hospital has gone up every year.
