Bhupendra shares joint lead

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Nepal's Bhupendra Niraula took joint lead in the Asian Amateur Chess Championship being held in Brunei after a win in the seventh round.



2056-rated Bhupendra overcame unrated Malaysian player Aziz Farhan on Thursday. After the win, Bhupendra shares joint lead along with four other players with 5.5 points.

However, he stands third on the basis of Buchholz tiebreak despite earning equal points as one of the five highest-point earners. Meanwhile, the other participant from Nepal Dharam Bahadur Lama, rated 1927, also earned victory over unrated player of host Brunei.


He has garnered 4.5 points after the victory over Kamarunsalehin Kamis. He stands 13th among 32 participants.
