The best player award has a significant meaning in the football fraternity. The best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward along with the best coach will be awarded with a motorbike each. [break]
According to a highly placed All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) source, two players of Three Star will get the motorbikes for their best performance in the league. Santosh Sahukhala will be awarded with the best forward award and Kiran Chemjong with the best goalie award.
According to the source, Rohit Chand of Machhindra has high chances of winning the best defender award. However, Nabin Neupane of NRT is also a candidate for the award. Parbat Pandey of Nepal Police Club will be chosen for the best midfielder award and Police coach Birat Krishna Shrestha will be given the best coach award.
Defender Chand who displayed great performance in defense line up for Machhindra had been dragged into controversy during the later stage of the league due to match fixing allegations to his team.
Captained by Chand, Machhindra who had played a goalless draw against Armed Police Force in the first leg, lost 8-0 to the same team in the last match of the league. As a result, APF became safe from relegation.
Boys Union coach Kumar Katuwal on the same day of their defeat had alleged Machhindra of playing a preplanned match against APF. He had also accused Machhindra of match-fixing and losing to Sankata in the second leg match.
“Seeing his performance, Chand no doubt is one of the best defenders,” Katuwal said.
